Medusa – A Greek mythological gorgon who took great pride in flaunting her good looks until the day Poseidon raped her, causing his wife Athena to curse her with reptilian hair and a gaze that would turn every onlooker into stone. Still, Medusa loved living her life freely despite her seemingly doomed life. As a tattoo, Medusa represents unconquerable feminine power, magic, freedom, transformation, and protection. The snakes in her hair symbolize regeneration and renewal as they tend to shed their skin and then grow it all back again. The children at one of the daycares I worked at used to playfully refer to me as Medusa because of my dreadlocks, which ultimately made me decide to get her tattooed.
