• Name:
    Seth Holmes

  • Date Born:
    5/13/1990

  • Tattooing since:
    2013

  • Currently Resides:
    Pittsburgh PA

  • Current shop name/location:
    Bloodlines Gallery

  • Equipment used:
I used to use rotary machines exclusively (Dragonfly/Stingray), but I switched back to coils about a year ago. I mainly use Keith B machines now, but I also really like (and frequently use) Deluxe Irons and Dietschvision machines as well.

  • Featured/Published:
I’ve never been published in any magazines, but I’ve received a few features on some prominent tattoo Instagram pages. This blog is my first interview, so I’m pretty excited!

  • What sparked your love of art?:
I’ve been drawing since I was a child. Not really sure what sparked my intrigue in visual art, and I’ve always been heavily involved in music as well.

  • How’d you end up becoming a tattoo artist?
I kind of fell into it. I always had tattooing in mind as a viable career. Starting out as desk help and working my way up to manager, then piercer, and finally taking the leap into tattooing. Going to the art institute for graphic design definitely helped with the art side of this craft as well.

  • Most memorable tattoo you’ve done:
I’d have to say the most memorable tattoo I’ve done is a portrait of ODB that I did on a good friend. I’ve been a huge fan of Wu Tang since I was a kid, so it was surreal getting asked to do it.

  • Have you ever tattooed yourself?:
Yeah once. I put a shitty little rose on my ankle when I first started tattooing.

  • Any tattoos you refuse to do because of any reason like the idea/placement?:
Yes. As far as placement, I won’t tattoo your hands or neck unless you’re already heavily tattooed or are a tattooer. Mainly because I don’t want to be the reason you can’t get a good job in the future. As for ideas… I won’t tattoo anything racist or pro nazi.

  • How do you handle negative feedback?
Brush it off. I try to take the positive critiques to heart and improve my craft. I think people who go out of their way to be over critical or negative probably have more problems than I do personally.

  • What signature style do you think you excel in?
I excel in nothing haha. I enjoy tattooing neotraditional and realism. Color or black and grey.

  • What has been the biggest change in your life since you’ve became more popular?
The biggest change I’ve noticed is that more and more people are asking for handouts and free tattoos, as if this is just a hobby. I got bills, man! Haha.

  • What moment so far in your career that you think you will never forget?
Tattooing my mom. Without a doubt she’s been the most supportive person in my life. Especially with tattooing.

  • If you were not a tattoo artist, what would you be?
I’d probably be a touring musician. I was in a band for years before I started tattooing.

  • Hobby outside of anything art related:
I enjoy playing heavy music on guitar and hip hop on drums.

  • Short term goal:
As of now I just want to continue carving out my own style.  In a sea of black t shirts, I’m trying to stick out like a pink sweater haha.

  • Long term goal:
I’d like to be known throughout the industry as being a solid tattooer who’s good with clientele and provides them with a great experience. I’m a firm believer that the client (and their experience) is the most important part to this job. Without them, I am nothing.
